Efficient logistics of the last mile is becoming increasingly important for food retailers across Europe in the growing online business. WALTHER Faltsysteme has an answer to the increasing demand in the e-commerce sector: a newly developed 40l folding box in the "shop box format" 530 x 350 x 285 mm. The folding box is very robust and yet a lightweight: with just under 1,500 g, it is designed for dynamic loads and rough handling in logistic processes of delivery services. Due to its sheet piling profile in the corners and the form-fitting connections between the components, the container has a high stability and rigidity despite its low weight. The handles are designed and dimensioned to be very comfortable and ergonomic to handle. All parts are made of recyclable polypropylene and are assembled and printed fully automatically.
A Dutch supermarket chain already uses more than one million WALTHER folding boxes 5328 V1 "eFold". They are used for delivery to customers' homes and for a "pick-up" offer. The containers make the logistics of the last mile effective: they can be folded to a height of only 50 mm so that 224 empty containers fit onto one pallet, corresponding to a reduction in volume by approx. 81%. For a lower impact on the environment, the WALTHER folding box is handed over to the customer against a deposit so they do not need any bags for their shopping. Actually, only few boxes are returned and customers use the handy folding box permanently. As the box is an advertising medium for the company, this is, of course, a welcome effect.
Our designers have developed a foldable lightweight with a solid structure which can be folded and unfolded very quickly, is big enough for the contents of the typical online shopping basket and has the right properties for all the stages of the logistics chain with its reinforced base and perforated side walls. And when it's folded, the volume of the box is reduced by approx. 80%.
