A large retailer was looking for a collapsible box measuring 600 x 400 x 285 mm, especially for use in their new, fully automated distribution centres. The boxes were also supposed to have an auto-ID system for identification in the automatic system. The automatic picking of small parts is done in the Dynamic Picking System (DPS). For this application, WALTHER Faltsysteme has developed a collapsible box measuring 600 x 400 x 285 mm in cooperation with its partner bekuplast. With its running tread base, the container is optimised for conveyor technology. Additionally, it has pouches for automatic unfolding and unstacking. All 5 main elements are made from recyclable polypropylene and assembly is a fully automated process. The auto-ID equipment of the container includes two scratch-resistant and permanent in-mould barcodes as well as an RFID Ready version.
The newly developed WALTHER container has a special running tread base for high running smoothness on the conveyor system.
For returns from the stores, the box can be folded, reducing its volume by more than 75% and achieving a stacking height of only 55 mm when empty.
The front sides of the containers have special flaps for robots to grip and automatically unfold the boxes.
