Reduce costs, improve handling, maintain durability and protective function - these were the simple specifications of a well-known manufacturer of processors.
Silicon wafers are the basic material for the manufacture of computer processors. Being extremely sensitive, they make high demands on a transport box. So far, silicon wafers had been sent back and forth between the various processing sites throughout Europe, Asia, and the USA in a very complex aluminium transport packaging.
WALTHER Faltsysteme changed the entire system from aluminium to plastics. A Hybox with the basic dimensions 1,200 x 1,000 mm and special internal packaging was presented as the solution. The box was tested intensively - it was supposed to deal with accelerations of up to 30 G and loads of up to 3,000 kg without damage. After successful testing in air and truck freights, the Hypox was approved as the standard packaging for wafer transport.
Our customer in the semiconductor industry now benefits from reduced acquisition costs, significantly lower circulation costs, and from high transport safety without damage to its expensive freight.
